About Sword of Dracula

SWORD OF DRACULA began as an indy book from Image Comics. Dracula is one of the most recognizable names on the planet, and a fresh, huge, bombastic take on him was too hard to pass up. Reviews have been uniformly gushing, repeating the same phrases-"most original," "not what we expected," "coolest Dracula since Christopher Lee," and most importantly, "can't wait to see this on the big screen."

SWORD OF DRACULA's first seris is available as a trade paperback. SWORD OF DRACULA also lays the groundwork for another series, GUNS OF FRANKENSTEIN, about a secret Polidorium operation in 1943, which gets referenced in the series.

REVIEWS

"There’s an intense scene on top of a train that will fill any gore-hound’s belly and some nice action sequences sprinkled through the rest of the book.... a damn fine vampire read that utilizes the mythology in fun and exciting ways." Aint it Cool News

"A dark horror/spy book that grounds its vampires in the real world .... Scott’s work throughout the book is solid. He gives the book the look of a summer movie blockbuster. ...one of the finest independent books I have read in a long time." Times-Express

"Sword of Dracula is a psychologically dark horror comic about a secret team of vampire hunters with quite a few issues of their own, fighting a Dracula who has power over blood. (Sounds strange, and it is, but it works.)Take away Vampi’s cheesecake, and she fits in perfectly. That’s what Henderson and Scott do, and the result is a - dare I say it? - surprisingly awesome comic." Comixtreme

"You can very easily imagine it playing out on a movie screen. So if you like espionage and action along with your vampiric violence, this is the book for you.... I'm getting excited about (upcoming) The Dracula War already." Comics Bulletin

"Retooling Dracula is tricky — Writer Jason Henderson establishes the vampire lord as a contemporary para-military target with the creepy-cool ability to shape blood into weaponry and castles. Greg Scott's opening chapters scan like storyboards for Black Hawk Down fused with the best of '70s grind-house horror."
-- Entertainment Weekly

"Genuinely creepy adventure!"
-- Publisher's Weekly

"The thinking man's Dracula, full of smart storytelling... This final issue ups the ante on every front. ... keeps you right where it wants you with a clever blending of inter-character dialogue and inner-character monologue. There’s even a reference to Damocles in this issue that’s just priceless." -- Comixtreme on SOD#6

"Once again, Henderson shows us a Dracula with powers that are just incredible. We get to see another creative use of Dracula’s control over blood. However, the thing that impressed me the most was the power Dracula possesses which allows him to raise hundreds of the undead! Tell me when Hollywood has ever shown us a Dracula THIS powerful!"-- Comic Fanatic on SOD#5

"Henderson's approach to Dracula is fundamentally different from anything that has come before, which should come as no surprise to anyone who has read the first three issues of this title." Cinescape on SOD #4.

"This is the issue where it all comes together. I’ve really enjoyed SOD so far and each issue always leaves me wanting more – especially when it seems that they always end in a cliffhanger. Sign me up for another issue – I don’t want the blood in my brain to boil!"-- Silver Bullet on SOD #4.

"Vampires seems to be enjoying a resurgence in popularity, at least in the comic book world, but this is one of the best vampire comic on the market right now. Hell, it’s one of the best horror comics, period." Comixtreme on Sword of Dracula #4

Sword of Dracula #4 tops Fanatic's 10 Best of the Week!
"With each new issue, Henderson continues to amp up the action and the story. And with this issue, Henderson delivers a roller coaster ride, hang-on-to-your-heart-ending, Hollywood-type blockbuster that will leave the reader slack jawed, stunned and counting down the days until the next issue!"

"This unique take on Dracula continues to surprise me with how much fun it is." SilverBullet on SOD#3.

" Sword of Dracula is a vampire story told right... Dracula himself is everything you always thought him to be, and more." Comixtreme on SOD#3.

"Wait until you see how Belk’s art leaps off the page and makes this issue feel like a Hollywood action/adventure flick! You will believe Dracula can produce and throw blood chains!!" Fanatic on SOD#3

"In SWORD OF DRACULA #3, Jason Henderson continues to keep a relentless drive as he tops the already wild action sequence of the first two issues. Just when you thought you knew where he was taking the story, Henderson slips in a couple of cool surprises."
--Malay Mail

"The most unique take on Dracula in over a century ... call this MAXIMUM DRACULA... cover to cover SWORD OF DRACULA #3 is the one issue you MUST buy! ...William Belk brings an American-manga type feel... Belk was tailor made for Sword of Dracula! When Dracula goes into action, you see it AND you truly believe it! It’s almost like a Hollywood blockbuster leaping off the page with each panel!
... And I can’t stress enough:
"JUMP ON NOW!"

"The most unique take on Dracula in over a century ... call this Ultimate Dracula!"
ComicFanatic on SOD#2.

"A very gritty, sophisticated, modern day action adventure epic – with the emphasis squarely on action and adventure. This is probably the best take on the vampire genre I’ve seen in a long time."
SilverBullet on SOD#2

"Henderson's vision of Dracula is the real deal. Heck, for me, it's the best imagining of 'Dracula' yet. (It's like he tapped into some primal energy in creating this version.)"
The Kuala Lumpur daily, THE MALAY MAIL

"Image's Sword of Dracula is quickly becoming a hit, and it's no wonder why... Buffy ain't got nothing on this."

"One of the coolest reinterpretations of Bram Stoker's character in years...Imagine the grunts from ALIENS taking on those 28 DAYS LATER zombies, and you have some idea of the feel of this issue... if you like horror comics, you'll love the hell out of this one. " Cinescape

"If you're missing action in modern comics as much as I am, this book is for you! Henderson and Scott prove that fast pacing can be as effective, if not more so, in story telling than the dirge-like pace of most modern comics. Dracula in S.O.D. is interesting in that he has powers to control blood. He can do strange, mystic things with blood, use it as weapon, turn it into a sword. This would look amazing in CGI." Aint it Cool News.

"One of the best takes on Dracula since Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee! ...Think “Full Metal Jacket” meets “Dracula”! ...In almost 80 years of movie making, and even more years of storytelling, Henderson does something that no other creator/movie maker has done... With just this first issue, Henderson already has this Drac fan hoping to see this story on the big screen!" Comic Fanatic

"Henderson has a way with words, but he's at his best when he's doing work with Dracula. The briefing about his mindset, the ruminations on the nature of his castle and Dracula's interrogation of a potential new recruit are all fantastic scenes." FouthRail.

"Good [comics are] like the proverbial needle in a haystack. Well I just read Sword of Dracula, and all I can say is that I think I’ve found a needle... This issue establishes Dracula in all his dark glory. ... It incorporates bits of myth and bits of history into a gory, blood-filled new legend. ... Scott draws Sword of Dracula as if born to the role... gritty and cinematic." Comixtreme

"One of the most original takes on the Dracula legend that I've personally read… the art is gorgeous; intricately detailed and bursting with energy and style." Silver Bullet Comics

"This book is not what I expected it to be. ... I’m looking forward to the next issue already."
Slushfactory

"... as an action-packed opening salvo, this series delivers, with gloriously detailed, photorealistic art from Scott, including an excellent rendition of Dracula’s hidden castle, and a good design for Dracula himself." Movie Poop Shoot
